Mice and voles can appear similar at first glance. When you take a closer look at both species of rodent you will see that they actually have more differences than similarities.
Both Mice and Voles:
- Rodents
- Approximately 5 – 8 inches long
- Grey / brown fur
Mice:
- Slender bodies
- Pointed noses
- Will eat almost anything
- Large ears
- Tail as long as body
- Create burrows/nests in sheltered areas
- Lifespan of 15 – 18 months
- 5 – 6 pups per litter
- Commonly found in homes
- Don’t create tunnels / trails on lawns
Voles:
- Short tails
- Round noses
- Small round ears
- Create tunnels / tails on lawns
- Eat grains, seeds, and plants
- Lifespan of 2 – 12 months
- Stocky bodies
- 3 – 10 pups per litter
- Rarely found in homes
- Found in grassy areas
